Sutton extends BTCC lead with Snetterton treble as Ingram keeps the pressure on

Ash Sutton took a race win and two podiums across the Snetterton triple header to stretch his British Touring Car Championship lead, with Tom Ingram and Dan Cammish sharing the other victories.

Snetterton is a circuit of two halves, a long straight into a heavy braking zone followed by a technical infield where the touring cars spend the majority of the lap. The BTCC triple header format, three races in a day with ballast and success weight shifting between them, rewards the driver who can manage a car across three completely different balance configurations.

Sutton won Race 1 from pole, converted the clean start into a lead he never surrendered, and then drove two measured races to second and third in the reversed grid contests. The NAPA Racing Ford Focus ST carried full success ballast in the finale and still finished on the podium, a demonstration of the pace that has defined the season.

Tom Ingram took Race 2 for Excelr8 Hyundai, the reverse grid putting him on pole and the rear wheel drive friendly infield suiting the i30 N. Dan Cammish won Race 3 for Motorbase, the Astra's straight line speed decisive on the long run to the Wilson hairpin. The three different winners across the day underlined the competitive balance of the 2026 grid.

Jake Hill and Colin Turkington both scored across all three races to hold their top six positions, while Josh Cook's consistent weekend keeps him third in the standings. The midfield remains compressed, but the gap to the top two has begun to stretch.

The 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship standings after Snetterton show Sutton leading on 304 points, 13 clear of Ingram on 291, with Cook third on 267. Three events remain at Rockingham, Brands Hatch GP and Brands Hatch Indy. Team BMW leads the teams championship on 447 from NAPA Racing UK on 304.

The next round is Rockingham, scheduled for 13, 14 Sep. It is round 8 of the season and the first of the closing stretch. How the championship leader handles the specific demands of Rockingham will indicate whether the current margin is a foundation to build on or a high water mark the chasers can erode.
