Freddie Slater took another feature race win at Monza to stretch his championship lead to ten points, with Ugo Ugochukwu second and the title fight narrowing to two realistic contenders.
Formula 3 at Monza is a slipstream race decided by who is brave enough to lead across the line on the final lap, and who is wise enough not to. Slater spent the feature race trading the lead through the first sector and reclaiming it under braking for the Variante Ascari, a pattern that looks reckless from the outside but is the only way to control a tow dependent pack.
The win was built on tyre preservation rather than outright pace. F3 runs a single compound and a mandatory stop, and the driver who can keep the rear end alive through the long right handers of the second sector is the one who has grip left for the last five laps. Slater managed the first stint short, stopped early, and used the clean air to build a cushion the slipstream could not close.
Ugo Ugochukwu finished second after a measured drive that resisted the temptation to fight the leader through the Lesmo corners, where a failed move costs both cars time to the chasing group. The Campos driver now holds second in the standings, ten points behind, with the title fight increasingly a two horse race.
Noah Strømsted took the sprint win earlier in the weekend and climbed to sixth in the standings, while Brando Badoer and Ernesto Rivera rounded out the feature race top five. The midfield remains compressed, but the gap to the top two has begun to stretch.
