Yuhi Sekiguchi and Giuliano Alesi converted a clean race at Fuji Speedway into a championship leading victory, pushing the ARTA Honda pair to second in the standings.
Fuji Speedway is a circuit where the long main straight and the heavy braking zone into the Coca Cola corner define the race. Success weight and fuel strategy interact across a 500 mile distance, and the crew that reads the tyre degradation curve through the high speed S curves correctly is the one that emerges at the front in the final stint.
Sekiguchi and Alesi drove a measured race in the Panasonic TOM'S GR Supra, leading the middle stint and reclaiming the front through the final pit cycle. The Toyota's straight line speed made the defence of the lead into turn one straightforward, and the pair were able to control the gap to the chasing ARTA Honda across the last twenty laps.
Tomoki Nojiri and Ryo Hirakawa finished second in the ARTA NSX, a result that keeps them in the championship fight but drops them to second in the standings by a single point. The NISMO Nissan of Ronnie Quintarelli and Mitsunori Takaboshi completed the podium, the Z GT500's best result of the season and a sign that the manufacturer has resolved the balance issues that hampered the opening rounds.
Naoki Yamamoto and Sho Tsuboi finished fourth in the Kygnus Sunoco TOM's Supra, while Kenta Yamashita and Jenson Button rounded out the top five for KONDŌ Racing. The depth of the Toyota contingent at Fuji underlines the manufacturer's strength on home ground as the championship enters its closing stretch.
The 2026 Super GT Championship standings after Fuji show Sekiguchi and Alesi leading on 83 points, one clear of Nojiri and Hirakawa on 82, with Quintarelli and Takaboshi third on 64. TOM'S GR Supra leads the teams classification on 145. Two rounds remain at Autopolis and Motegi, and the title fight is now a two crew race separated by a single point.
The next round is Autopolis, scheduled for 4, 5 Oct. It is round 6 of the season and the first of the closing double header. How the championship leaders handle the technical demands of a circuit with limited recent running will indicate whether the margin holds or one final twist remains.
